Cleaning Diamond Jewelry
| Home | Caring for Jewelry | Cleaning |

Most people don't clean their diamonds very often. In fact most people don't clean their diamonds as often as they should. It can be surprising how quickly your diamonds can become so dirty. Just wearing diamonds makes them dirty. Lotions, soap, hairspray, grease from cooking, sweat, dishwater, swimming, and other activities can all contribute to the lack of sparkle of you diamonds. Keeping your diamonds clean, grease free and sparkling is easy! It just takes some household products and a little time. Here's how you do it:

Use 1 small covered container (I use a commercially available jewelry cleaner container that has a small basket inside and a small, soft bristled brush. Just rinse it out well)

Fill the container half full with ordinary tap water, and half full with sudsy ammonia.

Soak your diamond jewelry in this solution for ten minutes or so, depending on how dirty the jewelry is. Then remove, brush gently with the soft brush, and rinse with warm water. That's it! For best results, do this daily. Any diamond jewelry that is worn every day should be cleaned every day. It just doesn't make sense to spend thousands of dollars on diamonds if they look dull and dirty. You can change the cleaning solution about once a week, again, depending on how dirty your diamonds are.
